Gnawa opens with pear and hazelnut sitting next to olibanum — an odd pairing that shouldn't work but does. It's fruit and frankincense in the same breath, sweet then suddenly serious. Give it a few minutes and jasmine sambac moves in, backed by saffron and osmanthus, with rose keeping things grounded rather than floral-heavy. This is the part of the fragrance that does the talking.
The base is where Gnawa earns its name. Sandalwood, vanilla, and akigalawood build something warm and slightly smoky, while ambergris and labdanum add a skin-like depth that lingers without shouting. Made in Saudi Arabia and drawing from the same oud-and-amber lineage as Amouage's Guidance, Gnawa doesn't try to copy it — it takes the idea and roughens the edges. Wears well from evening into night, especially in cooler weather.
